In this post you’ll find some useful hints to help you prepare for your wedding hair and make-up trial!
Your hair and make-up trial should be one of the last appointments in the run up to your big day. At So Coco Rouge we hold our trials 2-8 weeks before you say ‘I do’. This ensures you have the same artist at your trial as you will on the day, and that your hair length and skin condition are as similar to the day as possible. It also means you have had plenty of time to gather ideas together with less chance of changing your vision. This handy post is one to bookmark and save. Let us tell you how to prepare for your wedding hair and make-up trial.
1. Create hair and make-up inspiration boards.
Pinterest and Instagram saved files are great ways to collate images that reflect your vision. Save images of styles you like (and even ones you don’t!) so your artist can see exactly what you are picturing. Try to select pictures from your chosen artist where possible, to ensure images are of ‘real’ occasions and not styles created simply for a photoshoot. Remember to keep an open mind, what seems achievable in an image may not be so in real life, and many hair pictures feature extensions or added hair. Your artist will be able to honestly advise you on what will work best to create the look you wish to achieve.

2. Put in the prep work
Ideally your hair should be cut and coloured before your trial, and you should always arrive with clean, dry hair. This helps your artist to create the look most similar to how it will be on your big day.
In the months running up to your wedding, it’s a good idea to begin a skincare regime to create the best canvas possible for make-up. Don’t forget to hydrate from the inside too- it’s amazing what drinking water and eating a balanced diet can do for your complexion!
If you are interested in any little ‘extras’ we would recommend speaking to a specialist skincare advisor. We trust Alisha Louise Aesthetics who is based in Ormskirk. You can contact Alisha here- Alisha Louise Aesthetics.
3. Choose your hair and make-up accessories
If you are planning to wear any hair accessories on the day, it’s a good idea to bring them along with you. If you would like to wear fresh flowers on the day, picking up a bunch from a supermarket is a cost effective way to see an example of what we can create for you.
Hair extensions are used in many down styles, if you think you will need these, please bring them along to your trial. Our hair and make-up artists are happy to advise you beforehand.

4. Be organised
Your trial is the ideal time to arrange timings for your big day. Knowing how many require hair and make-up, enables us to create a schedule for your morning.
We’ll also need to know where you are getting ready and what time you’ll be leaving.
The room set up can help your morning run as smoothly as possibly. An area with natural light, a table and a few chairs (ideally one bar stool if at all possible) are ideal.
